Scarlet Interval explores the emotional space between intensity and stillness, a fleeting moment suspended in tone and time. Inspired by the phrasing and depth of modal jazz, this piece captures the feeling of a note held just long enough to stir something inside you… then let go.
The bold red stroke acts like a soloist’s voice and the sound of their instrument, intimate, bold, yet soft, like Miles Davis’ trumpet whispering through a muted phrase, or Coltrane’s tenor sax carving out emotion in air. It rises through layers of dark texture like a line of music emerging from silence, stirring tension without fully resolving.
In jazz, an interval is the space between notes. In life, it’s the pause where feeling gathers. Scarlet Interval lives in that in-between space where the emotional note hasn’t fully landed, but you feel its presence resonate in your chest.
This piece isn’t about resolution. It’s about recognition — a glimpse of vulnerability, strength, and sound made visible in a single breath of color.
